The piece of art must be correctly prepared for exhibition. It is generally believed that framing is both, a means of protection and of exhibition. Nevertheless, if it is not carried out with the materials and procedures required instead of protecting the artwork it might damage it.

The frame complements the artwork, and it may have a historical and/or artistic value. The different types of frames –carved wood, mouldings, made of different materials, patina or finish- are worn out over the years, undergo losses or become infected, thus affecting not only their aesthetic function and weakening their structure but also endangering the safety and aesthetic of the painting itself.

Conservation framing protects the work of art against deterioration caused by the passing of time, avoiding as much as possible any alteration from its original state. Since there are various ways of framing a painting, the most adequate for the exhibition place can be decided upon, considering some important factors as color, size and texture. In this way, the use of inadequate frames or over decorated ones which would diminish instead of enhance the appearance of the artwork is avoided. A good framing is the one that uses the materials and style that best match the art piece.

Frames are restored and pictures, oil paintings, etching paintings, watercolor paintings, drawings, reproductions, diplomas, decorative prints, certificates, posters, etc. , are framed.
